A timeline of events during and after the Windsor Green fire

Here is a look at events as they unfolded during the Windsor Green fire, starting on March 16, 2013, when a resident noticed the blaze and called 911 up to one year later as residents gathered to remember the fire.

MARCH 16, 2013

• 5:08 p.m.: Resident noticed fire, called 911

• 5:11 p.m.: Call transferred to Myrtle Beach

• 5:17 p.m.: First engines arrived at Windsor Green

• 9: p.m. Blaze controlled, but 26 buildings destroyed

MARCH 17, 2013

• Morning: Ten search and rescue teams went searched community for possible victims, but found no human casualties.

• Late morning: Crews escorted residents to damaged and burned units for necessary items, and then escorted them out.

MARCH 18, 2013

• All day: Crews work to clean up debris from fire, as well as put out hot spots around the 110 destroyed units.

• Afternoon: Gov. Nikki Haley and local politicians, tour the damage and address residents

MARCH 19, 2013

• Sheriff Deputy Tim Causey falls ill, drives to McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. He is diagnosed with smoke inhalation (and later the H1N1 virus).

MARCH 20, 2013

• Residents allowed to sift through ashes for personal belongings, with supervision from Horry County crews.

APRIL 1, 2013

• Horry County officials announce owners and renters who lost property from the fire may qualify for disaster loan assistance from the U.S. Small Business Administration.

MID-MAY 2013

• Construction on 26 new buildings begins, with A&I Fire and Water Restoration leading the renovations. The projected finish date was sometime in January. Some of the damaged buildings also receive new siding.

MAY 19, 2013

• Deputy Tim Causey passes away at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston after a two-month battle involving a medically induced coma and a ventilator.

MAY 22, 2013

• Hundreds attend funeral for Causey at Green Sea Floyds High School.

DEC. 20, 2013

Crews complete construction of the new buildings in Windsor Green in time for the holidays.

DEC. 21, 2013

• Residents move in or simply just view the completed units, with some opting to sell their condos and others opting to settle in.

MARCH 14, 2014

• Windsor Green and Horry County hold a “Restoration Celebration” at the complex, complete with a live band, food and speeches from county officials. More than 100 people attend the shindig, including residents who now live in rebuilt units.
