Conway police, the Horry County Sheriff’s office and troopers with the S.C. Highway Patrol are hosting a gun buyback program on March 29 in Conway at a Father’s Place, according to a news release.
It is the second gun buyback program Conway officers have participated in and during the first one in March 2012, they collected 39 long guns and 96 handguns. Conway police participated in that program with Horry County police and the sheriff’s office.
In a release by Conway police Lt. Selena Small, representatives from Conway police, the sheriff’s office and highway patrol will offer $100 gift card for long guns, $200 gift card for handguns and $300 gift card for assault rifles. Officers do reserve the right to limit the number of gift cards an individual can receive regardless of the number of firearms they surrender.
Residents can turn in the firearm anonymously with no questions asked, Small said. The weapons should be unloaded and transported in the trunk of a vehicle.
Firearms dealers and pawn shop employees are not allowed to participate in the program.
A Father’s Place is located at 809 Wright Blvd. in Conway.
