A 63-year-old Conway man was sentenced to 12 years in prison after he was convicted of lewd act on a minor, said Martin Spratlin, an assistant solicitor with the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

Ronald Lee Legg, 63, was found guilty of lewd act on a minor following a trial that began Monday before Circuit Court Judge Edward Cottingham, Spratlin said. After the jury’s verdict Wednesday afternoon, Cottingham sentenced Legg to 12 years in prison, ordered him to register as a sex-offender and be monitored on a GPS monitoring device for several years after his release.

Legg was charged after police learned that between June 2010 and June 2011 he babysat a 10-year-old girl while her parents were at work, Spratlin said. The victim reported that Legg had inappropriately touched her.

Horry County police charged Legg soon after the victim reported the incidents in June 2011 and the case was set to be tried in 2012, but was postponed because of a conflict with Legg and his attorney, Spratlin said. Other conflicts occurred in 2013 between Legg and his attorneys, so the case was postponed until this week.
