Steven Bernard Simmons

Police arrested a Myrtle Beach man Sunday morning in connection with the sexual assault of a woman at a motel.

Steven Bernard Simmons Jr., 43, is charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct and trespassing.

According to a Myrtle Beach police incident report, officers responded to the Bermuda Sands motel in the 100 block of North Ocean Boulevard at about 8:34 a.m. Sunday for a reported trespassing.

Once on the scene, officers spoke with motel staff who said a man was seen walking the floors of the motel before police arrived. Staff told police a woman called the office saying that someone was in the room that wasn’t supposed to be and asked them to call police.

Officers spoke with the victim who said she did not know Simmons – who still was in the room lying on a bed – and did not know how he got into the room. Officers confirmed that Simmons had a trespass warning at the Bermuda Sands motel issued in March 2013 and took him into custody and transported him to the city jail.

The victim told police Simmons sexually assaulted her.

The incident remains under investigation.
