A Conway man facing eight attempted murder charges shot at police as they entered his house to serve a search warrant, according to an Horry County police report.

Chad Cannon, 29, of Conway is being held without bond on eight counts of attempted murder, four counts of possession of a controlled substance, three counts of manufacturing or possession of a controlled substance and one count of possession of firearms and ammunition, according to records at J. Reuben Long Detention Center.

Cannon was taken into custody on Feb. 27 when members of the 15th Circuit Drug Enforcement Unit were executing a search warrant at 4562 Adrian Highway for a drug investigation, according to the report. Agents knocked on the front door of the home, announced their presence and when there was no answer they forced their way inside.

In the report, officers used a ram to force the door open and as it opened, police said Cannon fired a gunshot at the officers from a handgun as he stood in the kitchen. Officers took Cannon into custody without harm and also found a woman in another portion of the house. Information about the woman was not listed in the report.
