February 21, 2014

Charity Legette of Myrtle Beach was arrested Thursday for eight counts of income tax related charges, according to the S.C. Department of Revenue. S.C. Department of Revenue officials charged Legette, 25, with four counts of willfully assisting in the preparation of a fraudulent return and four counts of forgery. Legette could face up to 55 years in prison or fines at the discretion of the court, per a release from the department. During tax years 2009-2012, Legette allegedly provided her accountant with fraudulent W2 forms which were used to file state individual income tax returns in her name. Subsequently for the four years, Legette allegedly requested state tax refunds totaling $3,227 to which she was not entitled. Legette was taken to the J. Reuben Long Detention Facility in Conway and was later released on a $16,000 personal recognizance bond. The Horry County Police Department assisted with the arrest.
