Horry County Schools sets second makeup day for Daisy Elementary

vgrooms@thesunnews.comFebruary 20, 2014

Students at Daisy Elementary School in Loris will attend classes on April 9 as a second makeup day for instructional time missed during recent ice storms in the area, according to Teal Harding, Horry County Schools spokeswoman.

All schools in the district made up one day on Feb. 17. Other schools, which operate on a traditional student calendar, will make up their second day on March 28, but Daisy’s second makeup day differs because the school operates on a year-round calendar.

Schools in seven of the district’s nine attendance areas lost six instructional days due to two storms, but power outages kept students in the Aynor and Green Sea Floyds areas out an extra day. A decision has not been made on additional makeup days. The district has the go-ahead from the Horry County school board to ask the General Assembly to waive up to three days lost to extreme weather conditions, but there already is a resolution being considered to forgive missed days statewide.
