Sewer work will detour Kings Highway traffic

sjones@thesunnews.comFebruary 19, 2014

The two southbound lanes of Kings Highway at the U.S. 17 Bypass/U.S. 17 Business split at the north end of Myrtle Beach will be closed beginning at 7 p.m. Wednesday for installation of a 36-inch sewer force main, according to information from the city.

The closure, which will detour traffic headed down Kings Highway, may last into Thursday morning.

Traffic on Kings Highway will be detoured onto 17 Bypass and then onto Grande Dunes Boulevard, which will reconnect it to U.S. 17 Business.

Northbound traffic won’t be affected, the Myrtle Beach information says, but speed limits in both directions will be reduced to 30 miles per hour.

The sewer force main installation is a $2.9 million project.
