A store owner shot at a suspect who stole his cash register in Little River Monday afternoon, according to an Horry County Police report.

Police responded to the Tienda Mexicana La Ideal Monday about 3 p.m. for a report of a man shooting a gun. Once there, police found pieces of a cash register, glass and coins on the ground and learned the shooter was the store owner, the report said.

An officer reviewed surveillance footage but could not make out specific details of the suspect who was wearing a ski mask and gloves. Police said the suspect was spotted on the surveillance video entering the store, proceeding to the counter and ripping the cash register off the counter. The store owner shot at the suspect once inside the store and followed the person outside the building where he fired three more rounds.

Police said the cash register was found on the edge of a wooded area about 100 yards away from a dirt alley the suspect had run through. About $350 was missing from the register.
