A woman, her son and their pets were not injured when a fire started in the kitchen their North Myrtle Beach home, said city spokesman Pat Dowling.

A fire started in the home on the 2900 block of Little Egret Road in Barefoot resort about 7:50 p.m.

The fire started in the kitchen and spread into the attic space above the kitchen, Dowling said.

Firefighters in North Myrtle Beach extinguished the blaze and contained the damage by the fire to the kitchen and attic space, Dowling said. However, there is smoke damage to much of the home.

The cause remains under investigation, but Dowling said it may have been a grease fire.
