Horry and Georgetown county public schools will remain closed for students Thursday due to lingering problems from an ice storm that hit the area.

Horry County Schools’ 12-month district and school employees are to report to work at their normal times as conditions allow, according to information from the district.

Georgetown County schools will remain closed because of continued icing, power outages and fallen trees that are blocking roads in parts of the county, said Ray White, district spokesman. All 220- and 240-day employees are to report to work by 10 a.m. if conditions allow.

Coastal Carolina University will be open Thursday for all students, faculty and staff. The university said liberal use of leave time will be authorized for faculty and staff who are concerned about safe travel, and that students who are concerned about safe travel should not come to campus but will have to make up missed classes.

All three campuses of Horry-Georgetown Technical College will open at 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
