The State Law Enforcement and Coastal Carolina University's Department of Public Safety are investigating the death of a student found in his apartment Tuesday night, according to an email sent to students.

Willard Hoy, a junior from Winnsoboro, S.C., was found dead Tuesday in the University Place Low Country Apartments, but there were no signs of foul play, the email said.

Students were emailed about 11 p.m. Tuesday.

SLED is leading the investigation.

This is the second student death this year.

Michael James Rath, 21, a freshman from Rye, N.Y., was found by friends on the sofa in his apartment at University place about noon Jan. 22, said Horry County Coroner Robert Edge. Homicide and foul play were ruled out in Rath's death, but Edge said the specific cause remained undetermined pending additional test results.
