U.S. 501 bridge near Myrtle Beach opened after treatment for ice

February 11, 2014

The U.S. 501 bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway is open to traffic after it was blocked late Tuesday until it could be treated for ice.

Police had blocked the bridge because several accidents occurred on and near the bridge as ice accumulated.

Police were called about 10:45 p.m. to close the bridge after the crashes.

The bridge is one of several area roads that became hazardous later Tuesday night. S.C. Highway patrol also reported problems related to icing elsewhere, including on U.S. 378 and Little River high-rise bridge.
