Waccamaw Boulevard is closed between River Oaks Boulevard and Dick Scobee Road near Myrtle Beach due to a gas leak, said Horry County Fire Rescue spokesman Julius Graham.

Firefighters were called about 12:50 p.m. Friday for the reported gas leak. Crews learned a construction crew hit and ruptured a gas line, Graham said.

The Days Inn was evacuated as a precationary measure and the roadway was closed. A gas company has been called to repair the line.

Graham wasn’t sure when the roadway would reopen.
