Economy gains momentum as it enters 2014

The U.S. economy grew at an annualized rate of 3.2 percent during the final three months of 2013, the Commerce Department said Thursday.

On the heels of an even better third quarter, it means the economy had tailwinds going into this year.

The strong numbers help explain why the Federal Reserve was confident enough Thursday to taper back a second time on its controversial bond purchasing program to stimulate the economy.
