Myrtle Beach’s back gate construction delayed

The back gate intersection is cleared after workers spent the night setting a steel girder and then removing it around 3 a.m. from the southbound bridge over U.S. 17 Bypass/S.C. 707/Farrow Parkway intersection on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013. Work started at 10 p.m. Tuesday setting the girder. But, it was taken down and the intersection cleared. Work on the bridge construction is slated to go on through Wednesday night. The work begins at 10 p.m. and continues through 6 a.m. During that time, no left turns are allowed from the bypass to Socastee Boulevard nor Farrow Parkway. Drivers can continue north or south on the bypass and make right turns. Drivers can make U-turns north or south of the intersection. Photo by Janet Blackmon Morgan /

The construction work scheduled for Thursday night at the back gate on U.S. 17 Bypass will be delayed due to weather, Horry County officials said.

Crews planned to work overnight Wednesday in preparation to install steel girders on the northbound bridge, but below freezing temperatures and icy conditions twice delayed the work.

The work has been rescheduled for Feb. 2 and will involve limited lane closures on U.S. 17 northbound from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
