    To get your local political group’s meetings and other events listed, please send an e-mail to sneditors@thesunnews.com with the following information: Name of your local political group, time and date of meeting/event, location/address, topic/purpose, whether it is open to the public, whether it’s free or the amount it costs. These announcements are listed each Monday on a space-available basis.


•  Horry County Democratic Party and Democrats around the state will hold 2014 State of the Union Address watch parties 8 to 10 p.m. Tuesday, where participants are invited to host watch parties in their homes with friends. Send an email to Alex Askew, South Carolina Democratic Party Regional Field Director, at aaskew@scdp.org if you would like to join in hosting a watch party. Before the speech, SCDP Chairman Jaime Harrison will join all watch parties across the state in a call to discuss the state of the Democratic Party in 2014.


•  Republican Women’s Club will meet at noon Monday at Applewood Restaurant, 14361 Ocean Highway, Pawleys Island. The meeting will focus on providing information about the Common Core Standards Initiative. The Georgetown County Republican Party Executive Committee has taken a stand against the Common Core, calling on the state to oppose the implementation of Common Core in South Carolina. Sheri Few, with SC Parents Involved in Education will present a program to bring people up to speed on the issue and to show what can be done to help block it.
