Myrtle Beach man charged after woman reports machete attack

A Myrtle Beach man was jailed Monday after a 33-year-old woman told officers the man attacked her, cut off her shorts with a machete and threatened to kill her, according to a police report.

Jay Warren Brown, 43, of Myrtle Beach was charged with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, according to Myrtle Beach Jail records. Brown was being held pending a bond hearing.

Officers were called about 6 a.m. Monday to the Atlantic Sands at 308 Second Ave., N., for a disturbance and learned a person near the room heard a woman screaming and that the man had a machete, police said.

The victim told police that she had met Brown about two weeks before and had no place to stay so she began living with him and they started a relationship, according to the report. The victim said she had stayed at a friend’s tent and when she returned two hours before police arrived Brown was upset and the incident began.

The victim said Brown told her to take a shower, but before she could he called her names, hit her in the head an threatened to kill her, according to the report. The victim said Brown used the machete to cut off her shorts. The victim refused EMS treatment.

Brown refused to speak to police and officers noted he appeared to be intoxicated, according to the report. Officers also seized the machete.
