A dense fog advisory is in effect until 9 a.m. Wednesday and could make driving conditions hazardous during the early morning commute, according to forecasters with the National Weather Service in Wilmington, N.C.

The advisory was issued Tuesday night as widespread dense fog moved into the area, forecasters said. Visibility was expected to be near zero at time, which could make traveling dangerous for motorists, pilots and boaters.

Drivers should use their low beam headlights, allow extra following distance and slow down, while boaters should use their GPS and on-board depth finders along with nautical charts that highlight navigational aids in the area, forecasters said.
