North Myrtle Beach police charged N.C. man in sexual assault of teen

Police charged a North Carolina in the sexual assault of a juvenile girl who later had his child, according to a police report.

Melvin Gene McMahan, 55, of Lincolnton, N.C., surrendered to police Monday and was charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor and incest related to the 2011 assault, police said.

McMahan is being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center on $21,000 bond, according to jail records.

McMahan had been wanted since the incidents to police in August, according to a police report. The girl’s mother told police she learned of an inappropriate relationship between McMahan and her daughter that occurred over about three months.

The woman said she secretly had DNA testing done on the baby because the girl, who refused to reveal the identity of the baby’s father, according to the report. The tests showed McMahan was the father of the baby.The girl and McMahan are related, but The Sun News is not identifying the relationship because we do not identify victims of sexual assaults.
