Coastal Carolina’s Hazel to play in Shrine Game

From staff reportsDecember 31, 2013

Coastal Carolina senior wide receiver Matt Hazel has accepted an invitation to play in the prestigious East-West Shrine Game Jan. 18 in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Hazel will become just the third Chanticleer to participate in the long-standing college football all-star game, following receiver Jerome Simpson after the 2007 season and cornerback Josh Norman after the 2011 season. Both players went on to be selected in the NFL Draft.

Hazel is hoping to be the next Coastal player to make it to the next level after a stellar four-year collegiate career in which he broke Simpson's program record with 183 catches while finishing second all-time in receiving yards (2,553) and receiving touchdowns (28).

He helped the Chants to three FCS playoff berths, including a run to the national quarterfinals this year as he led the team with 70 catches for 990 yards and nine scores.
