Search for missing women in Myrtle Beach area continues

Police on Monday began a search for another woman reported missing while continuing the search for two others who were last seen in the days before Christmas.

Rachel Provow, 36, walked away from her caretaker’s home on Burcale Road between 6 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Dec. 28, said Lt. Robert Kegler.

She has urgent medical needs and does not have medication with her, he said. She previously walked away from a different caretaker’s home on Dec. 20, but was found shortly after.

Meanwhile, major crimes detectives continued to investigate the disappearances of Heather Elvis, 20, from the Socastee area and Jamie Lynn Cross, 24, from the Myrtle Beach area.

Kegler said there is no new information to release in either case and police have no reason to believe the cases are related.

Elvis was reported missing Dec. 19 after her car was found abandoned at Peachtree Landing in Socastee. There is a $20,000 reward for information leading to finding Elvis.

The Center for Missing Persons or CUE has had volunteers searching the water near Peachtree Landing since Elvis was reported missing and extended the ground search on foot with canines in the Socastee area over the weekend.

Cross was last seen Dec. 23 when she left her home about 5 p.m., police said.

Jamie Lynn Cross’ sister, Sarah Langlais, said she was told her sister got into a green car that may have been a Volvo or Volkswagen and it was unclear who was driving the vehicle. Langlais lives in Michigan and said it’s been difficult being so far away and not knowing what’s going on with her sister.

Cross is a mother of two young boys, Langlais said.

Langlais started the Facebook page for Cross called Find Jamie Cross and said she hopes the community provides information about her sister’s whereabouts.

“It’s very confusing and very hard to deal with because she has not been found,” she said.

Cross stands about 5-foot 11-inches tall, weighs more than 200 pounds and her hair was most recently neon pink.

Elvis is 5 feet 1 inch tall, weighs about 118 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes.

Provow was last seen wearing a blue beanie hat that pulls down over her ears, dark pants and a red and gray plaid hooded sweatshirt.

Anyone with information about Provow, Cross or Elvis can call 915-TIPS or email crimetipss@horrycounty.org.
