Letter | Raise needed road funds by licensing trailers, mopeds

December 28, 2013

Why is it that Sen. Ray Cleary, R-Murrells Inlet, always picks on the wrong people when it comes to raising taxes?

He insists on raising money for roads by raising fees and fee-like taxes such as the state sales taxes on cars , increases on driver license fees and vehicle registrations as well as raising the gasoline taxes. Isn't it about time that this state start taxing all of the thousands of trailers and mopeds that are in use in this state?

The state could raise millions of dollars if they started registering all of the trailers and mopeds . They are getting a free ride now, and that is wrong . There are many of the other states that have registrations for these things . They should pay an excise tax on them also.

Mr. Cleary and all of the other senators, wake up and smell the coffee.
