— A 35-year-old woman told Myrtle Beach police that a man tried to take her purse, but she struggled with him and he was not able to get it from her, according to a police report.

The victim said she was walking at 8 p.m. Sunday along Withers Alley at 21st Avenue North when the man grabbed her head from behind and when she turned around he threatened her and demanded her purse, police said.

The victim said she struggled with the man for her purse and when the strap broke she fell back to the ground and the man ran away, according to the report. The woman walked about six blocks to a hotel to call police.

Officers searched the area, but did not find the suspect, according to the report. A man was briefly detained, but the woman said he was not the suspect. The victim had injuries to her shoulder area consistent with someone tugging on her purse.
