Myrtle Beach police investigate robbery

— A 29-year-old man told Myrtle Beach police he was robbed and assaulted after he gave another man a cigarette while he was walking in the city, according to a police report.

The victim told officers he was walking in the area of Seventh Avenue South and Ocean Boulevard about 1:15 a.m. Saturday when he was approached by the man and asked for a cigarette, police said. The victim said he gave the suspect a cigarette and kept walking.

But the victim said he felt something pressed to his back and the suspect told him to empty his pockets, according to the report. The victim said he gave the man his cellphone and 430 cash before the suspect punched him in the ribs, which caused him to fall to the ground.

The suspect ran away.
