Reality Rumors in Murrells Inlet

Two metal building with bars on the windows, what appears to be a large generator, many small tents, stands that are used to hold reflectors and scrims and several people moving things around could be seen from the road near Kings Krest on July 27.

The reality television show filmed in Murrells Inlet earlier this year will premiere on CMT Jan. 16, according to a press release from the station.

The show, called ‘Party Down South’, will feature eight cast members aging from 21 to 33 years old, all from the Southeast but none from South Carolina. According to the press release, Party Down South will follow “eight brazen adults for one wild summer of extreme fun.”

“Their summer vacation spot – Murrells Inlet, S.C. – may never be the same after these fast friends work, party and bond with one another over their common love of the South,” according to the release.

The Burbank, Calif., production company that made “Jersey Shore” famous – 495 Productions – has a contract with CMT for ten episodes of a spin-off, but with a tweak of country living. Each episode will last an hour.

Many locals were bristling over the reality show filming earlier this summer, complaining to Georgetown County Council about the noise and litter from the cast. The council later passed a filming ordinance that regulates time, manner and place associated with future filming activities along the Waccamaw Neck.

For about two months, filming crews and the show’s cast took up residence at King Krest, an old waterfront home nestled on the marsh with screened-in porches and a dock. The house sleeps 11 and rents for about $2,500 a week.

Area businesses, such as Drunken Jacks, contracted with the production company to provide services, a move owner Al Hitchcock called a good business decision.

The show will premiere Thursday, Jan. 16 at 10 p.m. on CMT. For more information on the cast, visit http://www.cmt.com/show/party-down-south/series.jhtml.
