Myrtle Beach man charged with assault after woman said she stopped him from driving drunk

— A Myrtle Beach man was charged with assault after a 48-year-old woman told officers he beat her because she would not allow him to drive her vehicle while he was intoxicated, according to a police report.

Emerson Huntbey, 41, of Myrtle Beach was charged with second-degree assault and battery after officers were called at 3:30 a.m. Thursday to 6507 Hawthorne Lane, police said.

The victim said when she refused to let Huntbey drive her vehicle he got upset and they argued, according to the report. The victim said Huntbey punched her and choked her, which left bruises on her chest and neck.

The victim said she fought Huntbey off and ran outside to her vehicle, according to the report. The victim said Huntbey followed her and slashed two of her tires with a knife. The victim drove to a nearby convenience store and called police.

Police took Huntbey into custody at the apartment and the victim denied medical treatment.
