New principal tapped for Conway’s Pee Dee Elementary School

— Angela Huggins was named the new principal of Conway’s Pee Dee Elementary School at the Horry County school board meeting Monday night.

Huggins, who is assistant principal and curriculum coach at Forestbrook Elementary School in Myrtle Beach, will move into her new position at the end of winter break, Jan. 6, following Principal Cheryl Banks’ retirement at the end of December.

Huggins began her career in Horry County Schools as a kindergarten teacher at North Myrtle Beach Primary School in 1992 and also worked at Socastee and North Myrtle Beach elementary schools. She worked in Marion County for eight years before returning to HCS this year and has extensive professional experience in curriculum and instruction, early childhood, family literacy and service learning.

A National Board-certified teacher, Huggins earned a PhD in educational leadership and supervision from Capella University and has received the Courage to Teach Fellowship. She also earned a master’s degree in early childhood education from Coastal Carolina University and a master’s degree in K-8 administration, educational leadership and supervision from the University of South Carolina.
