From staff reportDecember 11, 2013

Coastal’s duo of Christal Green and Amirah Al-Bayyinah swept the Big South Conference’s first women’s indoor track and field weekly honors of the season, announced Wednesday.

Green was named the Big South Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week; Al-Bayyinah was tabbed as the Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week.

Competing in her first meet for Coastal, Green won a pair of first-place finishes at the JDL College Kickoff last Saturday. The junior transfer won the 400 meters with a time of 57.21 and followed that with a 56.60 split in the first leg of the 4x400 relay, leading teammates Teka Simpson, Kaila Smith and Camille Hurley to the victory and a time of 3:49.28.

Al-Bayyinah won the triple jump at the JDL Kickoff with a jump of 40-8.75 and also placed third in the long jump with a jump of 18-7. It was the first indoor event victory for the sophomore, who claimed the Big South outdoor triple jump title last season. Her distance in the triple jump is the best in the conference and No. 4 in the country.
