Myrtle Beach man tells police he shot himself as he removed gun from night stand

— A 21-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to his leg Sunday afternoon and was treated at an area hospital, according to authorities.

The victim told officers that he was in a mobile home near the Racepath area about 3:30 p.m. Sunday when he shot himself in the right thigh, police said.

The victim said he was on the bed inside his friend’s house, but the victim did not know the exact address, according to the report. The victim said he opened the night stand, saw a small black gun and removed it.

The victim said as he removed the gun, he pulled the trigger and shot himself, according to the report. The victim said he ran out of the house and a woman saw him and drove him to South Strand Medical Center.

The victim was then taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center for treatment and police were called, according to the report. Detectives are investigating the incident.
