Horry County police charge man, search for woman in assault

— Horry County police charged a Galivants Ferry man and search for the identity of a woman in connection with another woman being assaulted last week, according to a police report.

Weldon Dudley Roberts, 51, of Galivants Ferry was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and charged with assault of a high and aggravated nature, according to jail records. Roberts is being held pending a bond hearing.

A 38-year-old woman told Horry County police that on Oct. 23 between 9 and 10 p.m. she was assaulted by Roberts and a woman, who she did not know, while at a home on Marvin Road, according to the report. The victim said she has been friends with Roberts and he came and picked her up to go celebrate his birthday.

The victim said Roberts drove to the other woman’s home on Marvin Road and that suspect accused her of stealing, according to the report. The victim said the female suspect hit her in the face and she ran out of the house to Roberts’ truck where she locked herself inside.

The victim said Roberts came out and said he was driving her home. The victim said during the drive Roberts punched her in the face, then stopped the truck and made her get out, according to the report. The victim said Roberts threw her cellphone into the woods and then drove away.

The victim went to a nearby home and called her father to pick her up, according to the report. The victim suffered a bloody nose and black eye from the assault. Police are trying to identify the female suspect in the incident.
