Green Grubbin’s slogan should be “Best Salad in Myrtle Beach for Under $10.”
Because it’s true.
Their current slogan is pretty accurate, as well: “Fresh Food, Fast!” Dressings are made daily and everything looks and tastes fresh. The lettuce wasn’t wilty, the croutons were crispy and crunchy (not to mention the best croutons I’ve ever had), and the veggies in my salad has just the right about of crunch.
Your salad or wrap gets made right in front of you Subway-style, so that part happens pretty fast but I can’t speak to how speedy their delivery is because I dined in each time.
Anyone who knows me knows I’m a particular eater, but I know that I can always find something on a menu at any restaurant that will please me because the majority of eateries offer a salad or some sort. As long as I can get it without dressing, I’m good to do.
So needless to say I know my way around a salad. So does Green Grubbin’.
(They’ve got wraps and milkshakes down pretty good, too.)
They have a menu that you can order from, or you can create your own salad. Or you can be like me and order off the menu but then sub out certain ingredients for others – without a surcharge so long as the ingredients you’re subbing are of a pretty equal value.
For example, I ordered the classic chef salad but subbed egg and tomato for croutons and broccoli, then swapped regular bacon for turkey bacon.
If you want to create your own salad (or wrap), you can choose from six different greens and lots of toppings, the first four of which are free as long as they are the “basic” toppings. There are also “premium,” “protein” and “cheese” toppings that have their own surcharges. Don’t worry, though, the basic toppings list is pretty extensive; the only thing I wish was on it that isn’t is peas.
And for those of you who do like dressings on your salad, you’ve got 20 to choose from, including three fat-free varieties.
Your salad comes in a nice big bowl with a lid that I have yet to finish in one sitting. I didn’t order any drinks during any of my visits, happy with water, but you can choose from Pepsi, Sierra Mist, Mountain Dew, Gatorade, Sobe, or iced tea for $1.99.
The choices don’t end there. If you saved room for dessert, you’ve got 13 flavors of ice cream to choose from and 17 toppings. Then you need to choose how you want it: in scoops or in a milkshake. One scoop is $2.99, two scoops $3.99, three scoops $4.99 and a medium milkshake is $4.99, large $5.99.
The hard part for me was convincing myself to splurge on a milkshake when I had just eaten a nice, healthy salad. I haven’t been able to talk myself into it yet, so if you try one, let me know how it is.
Green Grubbin’ is located at 803 S. Kings Highway in Myrtle Beach. Call 712-1563 or visit www.greengrubbin.com. Ask about their loyalty card because you won’t be able to go just once. Look for me when you go, because I haven’t been able to stay away since my first visit.
