Question 1 | What will you do to draw in more business to Georgetown?
Answer | The first thing that needs to happen is we need to bring civility back into our city government. I will work to mend the fences between the county and the state.
The most important thing I learned in my first job [at Oneita Industries] was that relationships are key to getting things done. At the same time we need to give the new economic development person the flexibility and tools needed to go after new businesses. I would like to create economic development zones that will provide tax breaks, reduce the cost to doing business in the city by eliminating or lowering business license fees, create programs that foster current businesses to help them expand. We need to show potential companies that we can work with the Horry-Georgetown Technical Schools to offer courses that will help train our citizens to work for their companies before they relocate to Georgetown. Another thing we should take advantage are the citizens that live in or near the city that are retired business owners, CFOs, CEOs, etc., that may have contacts in places we do not. We can use these resources to help build a relationship with companies that may want to expand to our area.
Question 2 | Would you support allowing alcoholic beverages on the Harborwalk, similar to how they’re allowed on the MarshWalk in Murrells Inlet? Why?
Answer | Yes.
