MYRTLE BEACH — A Little River man was charged with armed robbery after Horry County police were called to a Dunkin Donuts and found the man inside the store, according to a police report.
David Brian Meaders, 49, was charged with armed robbery and is being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center on $20,000 bond, according to jail records.
Officers were called at 8 a.m. Saturday to the business at 593 S.C. 90 E., for an armed robbery in progress, police said. When officers arrived they found Meaders inside the store, walking around.
Officers detained him and found a folding knife and 12 cents in his pocket, according to the report. An employee told police that Meaders came up to the counter with a coffee mug as if to purchase it.
The clerk said she told him the price and Meaders pulled out of the knife and asked if he could “pay with this device,” according to the report. The clerk said she ran to the rear office, where another employee was located.
The employees watched Meaders on the video surveillance system while they waited for police to arrive, according to the report. Meaders walked around the store, tried to put more coffee mugs inside a bag and took coins from the tip jar.
