Question 1 | Is the city doing a good job of balancing the needs of residents with those of tourists?
Answer | The main reason that our government was formed, as specified in the Declaration of Independence and in the S.C. Constitution, was to secure the God-given rights of the people. Our city, as well as most jurisdictions in the USA, have been miserable failures at fulfilling this purpose. Despite these failures, not a day has gone by when I dont say out loud, Another beautiful day in paradise. I remember when the water here tasted awful. Our delicious water in recent years has been a blessing for tourists and residents alike. The ongoing project to ensure that our beaches dont become contaminated with bacteria after heavy rains is another important initiative.
Question 2 | What can the city do to bring more jobs to the area and/or support younger families as well as the retiree population?
Answer | One of the things I will work on, whether elected or not, is to help ensure that our city flourishes economically. Ive been involved in the Internet since before the first web browser was available for Mac or PCs, and we can bring many good-paying jobs to our city by being more Internet entrepreneur friendly. Youve heard of Silicon Valley? Silicon comes from sand, so I say we can be Silicon Beach! Our business license fee system discourages Internet entrepreneurship or, perhaps even worse, is violated by those who are ignorant of the law. One of the footprints of tyranny is having laws that people of goodwill often, unknowingly, violate. Thats not the kind of footprint I envision for North Myrtle Beach.
