A new boat dock and fishing pier will open this weekend in Conway as the Waccamaw National Wildlife Refuge celebrates National Wildlife Refuge Week.
Open to the public, the free event will be at the Cox Ferry Lake Recreation Area at 1403 West Cox Ferry Road starting at 10 a.m.
There’s room for four boats on the new boat dock. And the pier can also serve as an observation deck.
A family fishing clinic and youth fishing rodeo start the day at 10 a.m. Rods and reels can be borrowed, or participants can bring their own.
There will also be guided kayak trips on the Waccamaw River. Those trips will depart from the dock hourly between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. led by the Coastal Expeditions.
To participate in mountain bike rides with the Waccamaw Trail Blazers, you must bring your own bicycle.
Music will be provided by the Subject to Change Bluegrass Band of Conway.
Donzell’s Restaurant will host a fish fry serving catfish starting at noon.
