MYRTLE BEACH — Education and entertainment will go hand-in-hand Nov. 2 at the 27th annual Forever Wild SwampFest, celebrating natural history and the black water swamp ecosystem. The free event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Playcard Environmental Education Center, 10729 Highway 19 W., about 6 miles west of Loris.
The event will feature continuous activities and entertainment, including music from the Red White and Blue-grass singers and other guest artists. All ages will be able to enjoy archery, fishing, horseback rides, hayrides and kayaking, and there will be demonstrations from Alligator Adventure’s Reptile Extravaganza. Food and beverages will be on sale, although guests may bring their own.
Educational exhibits will feature the natural ecosystems of the black-water swamp, forest, and fields, and historical exhibits will showcase pioneer and Native American villages, turn-of-the-century engines, a working sawmill and a vintage tractor show. Hands-on activities will include making candles, corn-shuck dolls, lye soap and willow baskets.
Educational displays will be provided by North Myrtle Beach and Carolina Forest high school students, the Horry County Solid Waste Authority, Nuisance Wildlife Specialty, the Horry County Museum, Lions Clubs of Horry County, Boy and Girl Scouts of America, the Blackwater Beekeepers Association, USDA-NRCS, Horry County Soil and Water Conservation District and Coastal Carolina University faculty members.
The event is sponsored by Horry County Schools, the Horry County Conservation Foundation, Blanton’s Building Materials, the W. Holliday family, Horry County Solid Waste Authority and LIONS Clubs of S.C., with the help of private citizens, local businesses, groups and agencies.
