A 32-year-old man was charged in connection with a 33-year-old woman being assaulted during the weekend, according to a police report.
Christopher Byron Hightower, 32, of Conway was charged with first-offense criminal domestic violence and held for about eight hours at J. Reuben Long Detention Center before he was released Saturday on $1,092 bail, according to jail records.
Officers were called about 2:30 a.m. Saturday to a home in the 1600 block of Sherwood Street for the incident, police said. The victim told police that Hightower choked her, kicked her and threatened her life in front of her three small children.
The victim said the children helped her escape from Hightower and she ran to a neighbor’s home to call police, according to the report. The victim had injuries to her neck, face and lower body.
Police found Hightower in the garage of the home and took him into custody, according to the report. Hightower told officers that the victim spoke to another man on her cellphone about not wanting to be in a relationship with him.
Hightower told officers that he told the victim she was cheating on him, according to the report. Hightower said he pushed the victim down after she threw a chair at him.
