Conway police on Tuesday arrested a man who was wanted in multiple carjackings and an armed robbery that happened last week, said Capt. Tammy Carter.
Patrick Gause, 36, was arrested without incident on Hemingway Street, and now faces armed robbery, carjacking, petty larceny and grand larceny charges.
The arrest stems from Oct. 7, when Gause is accused in three separate carjackings that occurred in Conway, Myrtle Beach and Horry County.
Police records indicate the first of the carjackings happened soon after an electronic monitoring ankle bracelet the suspect was wearing stopped showing movement . S.C. Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services records show that Gause, who was convicted of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor under age 16, had been on community supervision since his release on May 31. Records show his supervision was to end on April 9.
Gause is listed on the sex offender registry for that incident, which involved a 15-year-old girl, according to online records with the Horry County Sheriff’s Office.
On Oct. 7, Conway police were called about 4:15 a.m. after a female taxi driver said someone stole her taxi cab and cash from the Gasoline Alley and Singleton Street area, Carter said. The driver for Country Boy Taxi reported that a man pulled a knife on her after she picked him up at the taxi stand on U.S. 501.
The driver said the suspect asked to be taken to Gasoline Alley, Carter said. The driver wasn’t hurt and police later found the vehicle in Myrtle Beach.
Myrtle Beach police said officers found that taxi cab at 406 16th Ave. S., at 9:11 a.m. Oct. 7. An officer looking for the cab found it in a parking lot with its brake lights on, but no one was inside or around it.
Before that vehicle was found, Myrtle Beach police were notified at 8:15 a.m. Oct. 7 that a 62-year-old Anchor taxi driver had been cut with scissors on his neck and robbed of his taxi cab while in the area of 1900 South Ocean Boulevard, according to another police report.
The victim said he picked up the suspect at 606 ½ Sixth Ave. S., and was supposed to take him roundtrip to 1900 S. Ocean Blvd., according to the report. The victim said the man told him to park around the rear of a motel, but when they pulled up the suspect grabbed the driver from behind and held scissors to his neck.
The suspect demanded the victim’s money and the victim said he grabbed the suspect’s hand to pull the scissors away, according to the report. The victim said they fought and the victim fell out the driver’s door.
The victim said the suspect got into the driver’s seat and drove away, according to the report.
Then, at 9 a.m. Oct. 7 at a home along Wayside Road near Conway, Horry County police were called by a 43-year-old woman who said the suspect drove up to her in an Anchor Taxi and was honking the horn, according to a police report. The victim said she is an acquaintance of the man and she identified him as Gause to police.
The victim said Gause asked to use the restroom and when he came out he slapped her in the face, took $300 and her keys then left the house, according to the report. The victim said Gause then took a purse from the taxi, got into her Ford Fusion and left.
Police later found the woman’s vehicle abandoned near Harrelson Boulevard.
