Obamacare

Letter | Why I oppose Obamacare

October 9, 2013

Here is why I oppose Obamacare:

First and foremost, it is a threat to our lives and freedom, both religious and economic. This law, unlike most laws, does not clearly define its goals, terms or limits, essentially granting power to political bureaucrats. Our president, without legal authority, has delayed or manipulated the law to further his political goals granting roughly 1,200 hundred waivers to this law and by fiat delayed the employer mandate contained in Obamacare.

We are witnessing an affront to Christians who believe that life is sacred and must be protected. The Health and Human services mandate is forcing unconscionable contraceptive (abortive) coverage upon church-related organizations. An Obama administration decision forcing taxpayers to finance insurance plans that cover abortion for congressional staffers violates the law (Hyde Amendment).

At the other end of life, we hear of health rationing for our elderly citizens. This president said that in some cases our senior citizens should be given a “pill” rather than beneficial and life-supporting surgery. Which bureaucrat will overrule your doctor or hospital to decide your future treatment? A 16-member unelected independent review board will make your health care decisions.

The individual mandate ruled a “tax” by the Supreme Court using the threat of punishing fines, forces every individual to purchase health insurance. Federal law should not force us to buy anything. Who in Washington knows better than you what you need or do not need?

To grant insurance to the uninsurable is akin to writing a fire insurance policy at the site of a burning building. To those who support free or subsidized insurance coverage to illegal immigrants and others should note there is nothing charitable about taking money from one person to give it to another. It merely punishes the productive member. Charity and compassion are individual virtues that must be freely given, not coerced.

This increasing loss of freedom will continue until Americans wake up and demand this law be withdrawn, repealed or revised to remove the power given to bureaucrats. We must speak out against the government takeover of our lives or suffer under its domination.
