MYRTLE BEACH — Myrtle Beach police charged a Virginia man in connection with a Good Samaritan being assaulted after he helped a woman move her disabled vehicle out of Ocean Boulevard, according to a police report.
Eddie Douglas Dowe, 28, of Christiansburg, Va., was charged with third-degree assault and battery and resisting arrest after officers took him into custody about 12:45 a.m. Tuesday in the 5700 block of Ocean Boulevard, police said.
At 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dowe was being held at the Myrtle Beach Jail on $469 cash bond on the resisting charge and bond had not been set on the assault charge, according to jail records.
A 26-year-old man told police he was pushing his bicycle north on Ocean Boulevard when he noted a 23-year-old woman, whose vehicle had broken down in the road, according to the report. The victim said he helped the woman get her vehicle out of the road.
The victim said Dowe then came up behind him and started kicking him, according to the report. The victim said he was able to get away from Dowe and called police.
Officers noted Dowe and the woman are in a relationship.
The victim said Dowe and the woman walked to the beach and officers approached Dowe, but he ran from them, according to the report. Officers chased after Dowe and found him in some bushes behind a house.
