MYRTLE BEACH — Myrtle Beach police charged a 24-year-old man in connection with a television being destroyed and an assault attempt on his girlfriend’s mother, according to a police report.
Tommy Dewayne Overshine, 24, of Myrtle Beach was charged Monday with second-degree assault and battery and malicious damage to property with a value of $2,000 or less, according to Myrtle Beach Jail records. Overshine is being held at the jail on $781 cash bond on the property damage and bond has not been set on the assault charge.
Officers were called about 8:30 p.m. Monday to an apartment at 612 37th Ave. N., for a disturbance, police said. Overshine confronted officers as they arrived and told them to take him to jail. Officers detained Overshine and then spoke to a 48-year-old woman, who was listed as the victim, and her daughter, who had been dating Overshine.
Officers learned that Overshine and the woman’s daughter had argued and when the victim went to the house with her daughter, Overshine got upset, according to the report. The victim told police that Overshine broke items inside the home before he got a baseball bat and hit the television set.
The victim said she asked Overshine to stop and he swung the bat at her, but she moved out of the way and he hit the television, breaking it, according to the report. The victim said Overshine then walked out of the apartment and was confronted by police.
Police found the bat in some bushes near the apartment and it had blood on it from a cut on Overshine’s hand, according to the report.
