Public can review proposed books, materials for S.C. public schools

— Textbooks and instructional materials that have been proposed for use in the state’s public schools will be available for public review locally at Coastal Carolina University’s Spadoni College of Education in Kearns Hall, room 205, according to a news release from the S.C. Department of Education.

The materials will be on display through Nov. 15, and each site will have instructions for submitting comments. State Board of Education members will review citizens’ comments before a final decision is made on adopting the materials.

The Instructional Materials Review Panels, appointed by the state board, will recommend the materials for adoption by the board Dec. 11.

The instructional materials are on display at 24 colleges and universities throughout the state. Those institutions also include the College of Charleston’s Addlestone Library, 205 Calhoun St., Charleston, and Francis Marion University’s Center of Excellence, School of Education, 220A Founders Hall, 4822 E. Palmetto St., Florence.
