Conway teen charged with arson in fire at charter school

— A Conway teen was charged in connection with a fire at an Horry County charter high school, according to authorities,

David Ellis Isley, 17, of Conway was charged Wednesday with third-degree arson and disturbing schools and booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center, according to jail records. Isley was released about an hour later on $7,000 bail.

According to an Horry County police report, officers were called about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday to the Palmetto Academy for Learning Motorsports, also known as PALM, charter high school at 136 Rodeo Drive by fire investigators.

Fire crews had been called for a blaze in a portable exterior restroom area, according to the report. Firefighters put out the blaze that they said was intentionally set in the restroom.

Damage was contained to a rear wall area and to a thermostat, according to the report. Damage was estimated at $500.
