— An employee for a Conway area Dollar General store told police she had money from the store stolen when her car broke down on the side of the road and a man stopped to help her, according to a police report.

The 34-year-old woman told Conway police that she was driving a deposit to the bank from the Dollar General located on U.S. 378 when she had car troubles, so she pulled over to the side of the road, according to the report.

The employee told officers she was not able to call 911 because her phone had been disconnected, so she went to the police department to report the incident.

The employee said she was sitting in her vehicle when a man pulled up behind her and he came to the passenger side and asked if she needed help, according to the report. The employee said the man reached into the vehicle, grabbed her purse from the passenger seat and she struggled with him.

During the struggle the bank deposit bag fell out of the woman’s purse, so the man grabbed it and she also grabbed it trying to keep him from taking it, according to the report. The woman said the bag ripped open and the man grabbed some of the money and then ran to his vehicle and left.

The victim estimated the man took $1,575 from the bag, according to the report.
