— A Myrtle Beach man was arrested Wednesday on charges related to child pornography, according to S.C. Attorney General Alan Wilson.

Joseph Robert Smith, 34, is charged with first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. He remains jailed Thursday on a $30,000 surety bond. If released, he must also wear a GPS monitoring device, cannot have contact with the victim or go within 1,000 feet of the victim, her mother, her work, school or church.

Smith is accused of producing and distributing images depicting a young child engaged in sexual activity.

The child lives in Horry County, Wilson said. Her age was not available.

The Horry County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Homeland Security Investigations in Charleston and the Myrtle Beach police department executed a search of Smith’s home and seized multiple electronic devices.

If convicted, Smith faces up to 20 years in prison.

The case will be prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office.
