MYRTLE BEACH — College application events are being held for seniors at some area high schools this week to help them apply for college. The events are sponsored by the S.C. Commission on Higher Education, according to Eileen Fleming-Patonay, coordinator of the Waccamaw Regional Education Center, which is bringing the initiative to the region.
Events will be held Wednesday and Thursday at Early College High School, Wednesday at Waccamaw High School and Thursday at Aynor High School.
Students who wish to attend should check with their school guidance department. The event will have representatives from various colleges, including Coastal Carolina University and Horry-Georgetown Technical College, as well as volunteers, who can assist students, and area sponsors.
About 50 students had attended Tuesday’s event at Socastee High School by 11 a.m., with most of them applying to three schools, said Fleming-Patonay, adding that parents are welcome. She said HGTC is waiving application fees at each event, students will receive some supplies, and Medieval Times is giving a free dinner and show to students who apply to three schools.
