Myrtle Beach teen charged with arson in apartment fire

— A Myrtle Beach teen is jailed on $20,000 bond after police charged her with arson in connection with an apartment fire on Wednesday in the city, according to a police report.

Cassandra Mariah Jones, 18, of Myrtle Beach was charged with third-degree arson about 3 p.m. Thursday when she was taken into custody at 408 28th Ave. N., which is where the fire happened a day earlier, police said.

Officers were called at 11 p.m. Wednesday to the apartment complex for a possible arson, according to a police report. Fire investigators told officers that there were several areas that had signs of fire damage inside the apartment.

Those included a couch and a section of carpet burnt on the first floor and two electrical outlets and a cardboard toy burnt on the second floor, according to the report. After officials completed their investigation, they arrested Jones in connection with the blaze.

Jones remained held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center on $20,000 bond, according to jail records at 7:45 a.m. Friday.
