Coccadotts Cake Shop will make their third appearance on the Food Network’s hit television show “Cupcake Wars” this Saturday.

Rachel Cocca-Dott has been building her dessert empire since 2007 with co-owner Matthew O’Connor. Starting in New York and expanding to Myrtle Beach, she has quickly shared her passion for pastries, cakes, and of course, cupcakes with the East Coast. This is Coccadotts’ third attempt to win the cupcake competition and, according to Cocca-Dott, she was better prepared and focused this time around.

“If you don’t succeed you just have to keep trying,” said Cocca-Dott. “We have been shut down so many times we felt like we had something to prove.”

Cocca-Dott explained the stress of being in a food competition. In the first two competitions she and O’Connor would get so wrapped up in the filming process that they didn’t focus on the main objective. During the filming of the third season, they ignored the lights and cameras and did what they do best: Create amazing cupcakes.

Cocca-Dott describes baking as a science and is always looking for ways to stay up to date with new and out-of-the-box ideas. Right now she is working on some fun recipes for the fall including a Candy Apple Cupcake. Some of their fall favorites in stores now are Pumpkin Cheesecake, Sweet Apple Pie, and Pumpkin Spice Walnut.

Creative partner Michelle Cocca believes there have been many positive effects from being on “Cupcake Wars” the past two seasons. Their hard work has brought in a lot of good publicity and people have been seeking out their shop ever since.

“Rachel knew what she wanted and the steps she had to take,” said Cocca. “It’s a very overwhelming experience but she was ready this time.”

Coccadotts Cake Shop is hosting a viewing party this Saturday at Lakewood Conference Center. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and they will offer free food to the public and will be giving away 3,000 free cupcakes. The show starts at 8 p.m. and they will be playing it for everyone at the event. Everyone is welcome to this free cupcake party and they hope everyone in Myrtle Beach will come support them on their big night.

If you aren’t located close to Myrtle Beach or Albany or Clifton Park, N.Y., where their other locations are, Cocca-Dott said not to fret. Coccadotts has been working on enhancing their online store so consumers can enjoy Coccadotts cupcakes anywhere in the United States. Some people may argue that cupcakes are a trend, but after all of this positive feedback, Cocca-Dott is ready to argue right back.

“Cupcakes have been around since the word ‘dessert’ was invented,” said Cocca-Dott. “I like to think that they are here to stay.”
