Horry County Schools’ enrollment stands at 40,543 students, the largest annual increase the district has seen in almost a decade.
An additional 1,289 students were enrolled on the 14th day of school, with a lot of the growth occurring in the high schools, said Rick Maxey, HCS chief support services officer, who reported the numbers to the school board Monday night.
The district’s budget projection was for 632 additional students, but enrollment is now 657 students beyond what was anticipated.
Principals have been able to accommodate the extra students without bringing in portables, Maxey said, adding it is good news to see increasing growth.
